PNG export checklist before you attach
A minute of checking before you download saves several rounds of confused AI output later. This checklist is specific to Memo Whiteboard's controls, split into what applies to every export and what's specific to 2D or 3D.
Every export: five checks
- Distance test — shrink the browser window or step back from the screen. Can you still tell what the main element is? If everything blends into one gray mass of similar boxes, add contrast before exporting, not after.
- Label check — does every element whose purpose isn't obvious from position alone have a one- or two-word label? Unlabeled ambiguous boxes are the most common cause of a surprising first AI result.
- Clutter check — are there stray marks, half-erased lines, or leftover scratch shapes from earlier iterations still on the board? Select and delete them; a model cannot tell "leftover" from "intentional."
- Framing check — is there a clear outer boundary (a frame in 2D, or a sensible camera angle in 3D) so the content doesn't look like it's floating with no reference?
- Prompt consistency check — does the text you plan to send match what's actually drawn? If you changed your mind about a layout detail, update the sketch, not just the words — see wireframe mistakes that confuse AI coding agents.
2D-specific checks
Checklist
- Snapped shapes (via QuickShape) look genuinely straight — re-snap any that came out slightly warped by redrawing and holding again.
- No accidental extra strokes are hiding behind a selected shape — right-drag a marquee over the area once to confirm nothing else is bundled in.
- Text labels are large enough to survive PNG compression at the size you'll actually display or attach the image.
- Hierarchy is expressed in size, not only in labels — a "Save" button box is visibly smaller than a form field, a header band is visibly shorter than the content area.
- If you copy-pasted repeated elements (see selecting and copying in 2D), confirm the pasted copies didn't overlap or land off-canvas.
3D-specific checks
Checklist
- Orbit (right-drag, nothing selected) to a three-quarter angle that shows depth — a flat front-on view often hides proportion differences a side view would reveal.
- Check that no shape is fully hidden behind another from your chosen angle; nudge one aside with W if it is.
- If color distinguishes parts (weapon vs. body, lantern vs. post), confirm the colors read clearly against the background at the export size.
- Consider a second angle if a feature (backpack, tail, back-mounted prop) is invisible from the first — export both and attach together, as covered in blocking out a 3D character.
Worked example: catching a problem before export
You've sketched a dashboard: header, sidebar, three stat cards, a chart area. Running the checklist:
- Distance test — the three stat cards and the chart area are all the same size. Fail. Fix: make the chart area visibly larger since it's the primary content.
- Label check — the sidebar items are unlabeled rectangles. Fail. Fix: add one-word labels ("Overview", "Reports", "Settings").
- Clutter check — an old QuickShape attempt that didn't snap cleanly is still sitting off to the side. Fail. Fix: select and delete it.
- Framing check — outer frame is present and clear. Pass.
- Prompt consistency — the draft prompt says "top navigation" but the sketch shows a sidebar. Fail. Fix: rewrite the prompt to match the sidebar, or redraw the sketch as top navigation, whichever you actually want.
Three of five checks failed on the first pass — this is normal. The checklist exists to catch exactly these small mismatches before they turn into a wasted round-trip with the AI tool.
Download, then attach
Once the checklist passes, use the whiteboard's toolbar download rather than a manual screenshot — it produces a clean image with no browser chrome to crop out. Boards are session-only, so download before you close the tab, switch modes, or clear the board. For the full attach process and prompt wording, continue to how to attach a sketch to AI tools.
